TRUTH   JUSTICE   FREEDOM

This is the heartfelt story of Bhai Anand Singh. Surprisingly, he is not one of the adults in the picture but the child wearing the garland around his neck. He is pictured with his father Late Khushal Singh.
Anand Singh has been in prison since 1995.

He is an accused in the Beanta case along with Jagtar Singh Hawara and others. Anand Singh has been out on parole since 25 July 2013. Unfortunately he will be returning to Patiala Jail on the 24th August.
Imagine, you have your whole life ahead of you. In a blink of an eye your life is turned upside down and you find yourself on the wrong side of the justice system in India. In normal circumstances you would be charged and a fair trial would take place. If you are found guilty, you would serve your sentence and once completed you would be free to go back to your family and try to adjust back within society. Unfortunately, this is not the case when you are a Sikh living in India.

Anand Singh feels the pain of the huge injustice he has suffered whilst in prison and this has had a huge impact on him. As you and I continue with our life, work and family on a daily basis, Anand Singh has been suffering in silence and alone. Whilst incarcerated he has lost his youth, missed out on the opportunity to find a marriage partner and the chance to start a family of his own. He also had visions and aspirations as all young people do to take up employment of his choice. Again, the prospect of gaining skills and talent and to be a productive member of society has been taken away.
As he has already served 18 years in prison, lawyers have been instructed by SOPW to file an application in the High Court for his release, this has now been completed and we will keep you updated on the progress of this case.
It is only with the Sangat’s support, best wishes and dasvand, that enables us to do the work that we do.
